FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything golfers ask before they put OnTheBag in the bag. Something missing? Ask us directly.

The caddie
How does the AI caddie actually work?

Every shot you log builds your personal shot history — which clubs you hit, from what lies, how far, and what happened. When you face a shot, the caddie combines that history with the situation in front of you (lie, distance, conditions) and recommends a club, how to hit it, and why. With little data it leans on general golf knowledge; the more you log, the more it reasons from what you actually do.

Why is the advice instant?

OnTheBag thinks ahead. The moment you log a shot, it starts working out the recommendation for your next one. By the time you've walked to the ball, the advice is already waiting — no spinner, no wait.

Do I need to know my exact distances?

No — that's the point. Most golfers overestimate their carry by a club or more. Log your shots honestly and OnTheBag works out what your clubs really do, then recommends from reality rather than wishful thinking.

Will logging shots slow down my round?

A shot takes three taps: club, intent, where it finished. It's designed to be done while your playing partner is hitting — you barely break stride.

Free vs Pro
What do I get for free?

Unlimited rounds, unlimited shot logging, scores, GIR, putting stats, and club distance tracking — free forever. Free rounds also include 3 caddie consultations per round. Only the advice you actually open counts; the caddie preparing in the background costs you nothing.

What does Pro add?

Unlimited caddie advice every round, plus deeper long-term trends and course memory. Pro is £3.99/month or £29.99/year — and TestFlight beta testers get Pro free for the whole beta.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Subscriptions are handled by the App Store — cancel in your Apple ID settings and Pro runs until the end of the period you've paid for. Your data and free features stay exactly as they were.

On the course
Does it work without signal?

Yes. Golf courses are dead zones and we built for that. Every shot saves to your phone first and syncs automatically when signal returns — you can log an entire round in airplane mode and lose nothing. The AI caddie itself needs a connection to think, but it picks straight back up when you're back in coverage.

Yards or metres?

Both — switch any time in Settings and every distance in the app follows.

Is this legal in competitions?

Distance information is generally permitted, but advice from any source during a competition round is restricted under the Rules of Golf (Rule 10.2). Use the caddie freely in casual play; for comps, check your competition's terms — and when in doubt, log shots but leave the advice closed until after the round.

Your data & availability
What data do you collect?

Your email (to sign in), your handicap if you choose to add it, the clubs in your bag, and the shots and rounds you log — including which courses you play. That's it. Your data is used to power your caddie and your stats, never sold, never used for ads. Full detail in our privacy policy.

When can I get it?

OnTheBag launches first on iOS via TestFlight, with the App Store release to follow and Android after that. Request a beta invite to be first out.
