Help & support

Get the most from your caddie.

Getting started

First launch

1. Sign in & set up your bag

Sign in with Apple, Google, or email. OnTheBag starts you with a standard 14-club bag — remove anything you don't carry and add anything you do. Typical distances are pre-filled with amateur averages; don't worry about correcting them, your real numbers emerge from logged shots.

2. Add your handicap (optional)

A handicap helps the caddie pitch its advice — aggressive lines for single figures, smarter percentages for higher handicaps. You can skip it and add it later in Settings.

On the course

Logging your first round

Start the round

  1. Tap New round and pick your course — search it once and OnTheBag remembers it, pars and yardages included.
  2. Choose your tees. Hole 1 sets itself up automatically where course data exists; otherwise confirm par and yardage with two taps.

Log each shot — three taps

  1. Club — what you hit.
  2. Intent — tee shot, attack, layup, or escape.
  3. Result — where it finished: fairway, rough, green, bunker, penalty…

Scores, GIR, and stats are worked out for you — there's nothing else to enter.

Penalties

Hit one OB or in the water? Log the shot with that result and OnTheBag handles the penalty stroke and the drop automatically. The shot still counts in your club stats — that's deliberate, so the caddie learns which clubs get you in trouble.

Reading caddie advice

After each shot, the caddie prepares advice for your next one — when it's ready, you'll see it on the caddie button. Open it for the club, the why, and how to hit it. Got a question — "should I lay up here?" — just ask in the chat.

On free rounds you have 3 consultations; only advice you actually open counts.

Troubleshooting

When something's off

No signal on the course

Keep playing — every shot saves to your phone first. The sync indicator in the round header shows what's pending; it all uploads automatically when signal returns. Caddie advice resumes with coverage too.

App closed mid-round

Reopen OnTheBag within 24 hours and it offers to resume exactly where you left off — shots, score, and hole intact.

Logged the wrong shot

Tap the shot in the hole's shot list to remove it, then log it again. Scores and stats recalculate instantly.

Course data looks wrong

If a hole's par or yardage is off, just correct it during hole setup — your round uses your numbers, and the correction is flagged for review so the course improves for everyone.
